FUEL is a design agency specializing in brand development. We leverage the power of design to give companies and organizations in the Midwest a competitive advantage.

We’re looking to add a Junior Designer who is ready to grow their skillset alongside our growing list of clients. While the work may be concentrated in some areas, our ideal candidate will show a developing portfolio filled with a range of approaches to problem solving that demand attention. This is an onsite position at our Hiawatha, Iowa Studio.

Junior Designer

  • Work directly with FUEL creative leaders and attend client meetings when necessary.
  • Contribute to all aspects of the project life cycle – primary research, brainstorm, concept, layout, color correction / retouch, producing final press, digital or web-ready artwork, etc.
  • Collaborate with external partners (writers, developers, printers, and other creative partners and production vendors) while sticking to a budget.
  • Manage your time effectively.
  • Move seamlessly across different channels/mediums: identity, print, packaging, web, digital and social.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience as a full-time designer on a collaborative team.
  • BA/BFA or higher in graphic design or comparable field.
  • Work examples that show a strong command of design principles and brand strategy.
  • Demonstrated ability for developing advanced brand identities for a range of clients.
  • Possess a paper trail of process development on current and past projects from thumbnail to completed concept.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills for working directly with clients, external partners and our design team.
  • Confidence in your instincts/abilities, but at the same time receptiveness to input from others.
  • Growing mastery of Adobe Creative Cloud, including motion design.
  • Photography/videography ability is a must.

Bill Bollman
Creative Director

Bill Bollman is FUEL’s Creative Director. Before co-founding FUEL in 2001, he worked for Horizon Communications, JW Morton and Basler Design Group. Bill studied Illustration at Hawkeye Tech in Waterloo, Iowa. An expert in the “old ways” of hands-on print production, these skills influence his work in the digital world to this day. His work throughout his career has been featured in international publications including Graphis, How International Design, Communication Arts, and The One Book as well as numerous design annuals and reference books.
